Farm update 13.10.19
How awesome is rain?!
We’ve had 32.5mm over the past few days, we did think it was going to turn out to be more but that’s ok - we’ll take what we can get!
The garden has already perked up greener from the soak, and the green is more vibrant than ever!
Our back patch is PUMPING! This new section of market garden has been in Farmer Dazza’s plans for a long time but it’s incredible to now see it all coming to fruition! Rows of luscious zucchini, tomatoes, eggplant, beans, squash - we are so very excited to start harvesting out of this patch soon!
We are continuing to have bug pressure in the garden mainly from the flea beatle and the rutherglen bug. We were quite fortunate that our rutherglen bug experience hasn’t been as extreme as what we’ve heard it has been on other farms in the area but they are here, and we’re doing our best to keep them in close check.
The flea beatle has mainly hit our salad mixes, asian greens and radishes/turnips. They travel through these fast turnaround crops pretty quickly, chewing holes in all the leaves. Most of the salad mix has still be great to eat, but it’s a shame to see whole beds of a holey crop! But alas, this is part of the journey, we’re learning every day and we know we’d much rather enjoy a healthy salad with leaves that have a few small holes in it than ingest dangerous chemicals from a commercially grown crop!
Just a reminder Botanica is not far away. One of our lovely customers Jane Tavener heads up the Heart and Soul Foundation , an organisation that supports women with wellness and coaching workshops (particulalry those suffering from trauma and who find themselves in hard times). Botanica is a fundraiser for the Heart and Soul Foundation and we’re sure it will be an awesome event held in the Botanic Gardens in Coffs on Saturday 9 November with loads of live music, yummy food stalls, pop up bars, fashion show, art displays and more!
